What is a facial and what does it do for the skin?
- A facial is a multi-step skincare treatment, which cleanses, exfoliates, nourishes, corrects, hydrates, and protects the skin. At Concept Medical, you can expect that your skin will be thoroughly cleansed which prepares the skin for the facial by releasing any dirt, oil and makeup from the skins surface. The exfoliation process can happen in a number of ways (depending on what is best suited and most beneficial for you) such as a mechanical exfoliation with a micro-scrub, dermaplaning, or a light chemical peel. The process of exfoliating the skin helps to remove any dead skin cells from the upper layer of skin. Removing dead cells allows for better product absorption, decongests pores, improve skin tone and texture, allow skin to appear brighter, and help to oxygenate the skin. Nourishing, hydrating, and correcting the skin takes place through numerous steps and the application of concentrated serums and custom masques. Through product and massage, we also increase the blood flow of the skin, oxygenate the skins cells, and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Protecting the skin is of course extremely important, and is done so through the application of a SkinCeuticals physical broad-spectrum sunscreen at the end of the facial.
Are there things a facial cannot do for the skin?
Yes, there are things a facial cannot do. A facial does not permanently treat:
- acne (as this is a chronic condition)
- rosacea
- pigment
- dark circles around the eye area
- does not lift the skin
- does not replace the uses of neuromodulators and other injectable treatments
How frequently should someone receive a facial?
Typically, our medical aestheticians recommend that receiving a facial every 4-6 weeks. Being consistent with a routine is when you will truly recognize the benefits and see improvement in your skin over multiple treatments. The overall goal, is for the client to receive a facial once within their skin cell turnover cycle.
Why is a routine facial so important to incorporate into your skincare routine?
By incorporating a facial into your skincare routine, you and your medical aesthetician are working towards fully balancing your skin and clearing up any skin conditions you may have. By balancing the skin, we are controlling congestion, evening skin tone and texture, oxygenating your skins cells to increase cell turnover (saying goodbye to dead cells faster and bringing new cells to the surface) and increasing stimulation of collagen and elastin.
Who is a good candidate for a facial and is a facial good for all skin types?
Absolutely anyone can receive a facial! While there is no one specific facial here at Concept Medical, the same steps are typically followed. Although, the facial and products itself are always customized specifically for our clients’ skin type and condition after a thorough skin analysis is preformed by our medical aestheticians.
Are facials only for women, or can men receive them also?
Incorporating a facial into your skin care is certainly encouraged for men as well. Typically our medical aestheticians have found, men often feel confused or overwhelmed when it comes to skin care and product use. This gives the chance of product explanation, order of use, the chance to discuss any skin concerns, and guidance on how to achieve healthy and balanced skin. Men are always surprised at how much they thoroughly enjoy a facial!
