Microneedling in Ottawa

Microneedling in Ottawa helps to improve skin texture and can treat many skin conditions such as scars, certain fine lines, stretch marks, acne scars, and enlarged pores. Microneedling can be effective regardless of your skin type or age. It can also be used as part of an overall anti-aging program to help maintain and improve your skin’s health and overall appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally-invasive skin rejuvenating procedure (also known as collagen induction therapy or CIT). After thoroughly cleansing, numbing, and preparing the skin, tiny needles rapidly penetrate the outer layers of the skin. Don’t worry, it’s very comfortable! Microneedling is used to treat and improve conditions such as acne scarring, certain fine lines, skin texture, enlarged pores, scars, and stretch marks.

Microneedling (or collagen induction therapy) works by creating precise areas of controlled damage at the surface level of the skin. The body then recognizes the damage and activates the skin’s natural repair process. This causes the development and renewal of new skin cells, as well as collagen and elastin, resulting in a reduction in scars, pore size, stretch marks, and improved skin texture.

At Concept Medical, we use the eDermaStamp by Dermaroller. This particular machine is considered the gold standard in microneedling and is licensed by Health Canada. The eDermaStamp is the standard of excellence in microneedling and was the first device to receive Health Canada approval. The device functions at a speed of 150 micropunctures per needle per second. This is over 9 million total micropunctures in a typical treatment! The electrical cord supports constant energy as opposed to the uncertainty with battery-operated devices. The needles are surgical grade, and an optimal needle count allows the skin cells to be displaced and the growth factors TGF Beta 3 to be released without ablation. A foot switch allows for easy stop and start, and an anti-flow back valve protects against any risk of cross-contamination.

Microneedling involves a hand-held device consisting of tiny surgical-grade needles designed to puncture the skin. This treatment is quite comfortable for the patient, with mild to very little discomfort. It is normal for the patient’s skin to be red or sensitive post-treatment but typically calms within the next 24 hours. Most patients look and feel like they have mild to moderate sunburn during this time. The skin may also feel tight for 1-3 days after treatment. A detailed explanation of what to expect is done during your consultation. The skin will continue to repair itself over the two weeks following treatment, with overall results of improved texture typically after a series of treatments. Patients can wash their faces with a mild cleanser, but we do suggest avoiding exercise for 48 hours and makeup for 24 hours after treatment. After 48 hours, we strongly suggest using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least a 50 SPF following the treatment.

Microneedling is ideal for patients who are looking to improve the texture of their skin. The procedure itself helps to increase plumpness and encourages the production of natural proteins, like elastin and collagen, to enhance the body’s healing process.

Patients looking for microneedling in Ottawa may be concerned with scars, stretch marks, or enlarged pores. While most treatments focus on the face, it is also possible to get this minimally invasive procedure done on other parts of the body.

The tiny needles within the device cause minimal discomfort, and many patients can see improvements within a few days. We recommend 4-6 treatments spaced out over a few months for full and lasting results that include smooth and soft-looking skin.

However, it is possible for final outcomes to vary. We suggest speaking with a medical aesthetician regarding your specific skin texture concerns to ensure that Concept Medical can provide you with the best treatment options possible for your unique skin type.

At Concept Medical, our micro-needling treatments are performed by our fully trained Medical Aesthetician using a certified, medical-grade device. It is very safe and effective. Of course, as with all procedures, results can vary, and risks are possible. A thorough consultation is performed prior to treatment. The eDermaStamp pen is extremely fast, with 150 strokes per second. This ensures that it can safely and properly glide over the skin’s surface without scratching or tearing the skin.

Although the face is the most common area for treatments, microneedling can also safely be done on the neck, decollate, arms, legs, and some other parts of the body.

Typically, at Concept Medical, our microneedling sessions are approximately 90 minutes in length from start to finish. Length may differ slightly depending on your specific visit.

At Concept Medical, most patients require 4-6 treatments to reach optimal results. We typically suggest spacing these treatments approximately 4-6 weeks apart. Of course, this recommendation can vary depending on client needs and goals. Microneedling is also a great option in conjunction with our medical grade Skinceuticals facials and chemical peels as a treatment plan.
