Fractional laser treatments at Concept Medical in Ottawa may be an option for acne scars, stretch marks, surgery scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. Fractional laser uses focused laser microbeams to create columns of energy deep within the skin. The heated tissue starts a natural healing process that forms new, healthier skin. Unlike other lasers, the fractional laser approach allows for quick healing, while leaving your skin fully intact.
Following a medical consultation with one of our physicians, hundreds of small laser beams are used over the desired treatment area to help improve the appearance and texture of your skin. The laser tip is cooled to improve your comfort during the short procedure. During your laser treatment you may feel a ‘snap’ sensation. However, fractional laser treatments are typically well tolerated. No freezing or numbing is required prior to treatment. Results vary and risks are possible.
Following multiple treatments, the treated area should resemble younger healthy skin. If stretch marks and surgical scars are treated, the scars should appear less noticeable, and take on a more normal skin texture and appearance. Fractional laser often requires multiple treatments for optimal results.
Fractional laser is commonly used for stretch marks, scars, and fine lines and may be performed almost anywhere on the body. Stretch marks commonly occur on the stomach and thighs. A consultation with one of our physicians is important in determining if fractional laser treatment is the best option for you.
Fractional laser treatments are extensively researched and produce clinical improvements in the appearance of scars, stretch marks, surgical scars, and fine lines. Fractional laser treatments are considered safe. However, like all cosmetic and medical procedures, side effects may occur. Results do vary.
Mild and temporary puffiness, warmth, and redness may develop after a treatment. These symptoms may persist for hours to days depending on the skin’s response and the extent of treatment. Cooling the skin after treatment can shorten duration of this response. Make-up may be applied the next day, and all daily activities may continue uninterrupted following fractional laser treatment.
The number of fractional laser treatments varies by condition, area, skin colour, and individual response. A treatment plan of 4-6 treatments spaced approximately 4 weeks apart is most common. Short-term results are often seen, but best results are more evident weeks or months following your last fractional treatment.
