Botox® for Chronic Migraine
Botox® is approved by Health Canada to help prevent chronic migraine headaches. However, choosing the right migraine treatment depends on the frequency and severity of your headaches. At Concept Medical in Ottawa, our physicians provide preventative treatment for chronic migraine headaches with Botox®. Botox® is for chronic migraine patients who are not optimally responding to other medications.
Prior to considering a consultation at Concept Medical for Botox® treatment for chronic migraine, please ensure:
- You have been investigated and diagnosed with chronic migraine by a physician;
- You have tried migraine specific medications prior to considering a consultation for Botox® treatments;
- You have confirmed with your private insurance provider that your chronic migraine treatment with therapeutic Botox® is covered. Botox® for chronic migraine is not covered by OHIP;
- You have had a referral sent from your Family Physician to Concept Medical.

Botox for chronic migraine treatments are never delegated to a non-physician practitioner.
WHAT DOES BOTOX® TREATMENT FOR CHRONIC MIGRAINE INVOLVE?
All Botox treatments at Concept Medical in Ottawa begin with a detailed consultation with one of our physicians. We request that a referral is sent from your family physician to Concept Medical prior to your visit. Botox for a chronic migraine can be completed within minutes and you may return to your normal activities after Botox treatment.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY BOTOX® FOR CHRONIC MIGRAINE TREATMENT?
Chronic migraine symptoms are often improved within weeks of treatment. However, there are some chronic migraine patients whose symptoms will not improve with Botox. Research shows that Botox can decrease the number of headache days per month as well as the severity of headaches while increasing function and overall quality of life. Improvement in chronic migraine symptoms may last up to 6 months following Botox treatment.
