Abnormal Leg Veins – We Can Help This Common Problem

Varicose, reticular, and spider veins are commonly seen on the legs. Physicians call these abnormal veins chronic venous insufficiency, as these veins do not work as well as normal healthy veins. Large varicose veins develop when the valves in veins do not close properly or when the walls of the veins become weak. Reticular veins and spider veins (also known as telangiectasia) are smaller than varicose veins. They tend to be red and purple in colour and at first glance are more noticeable than larger bulging blue or green varicose veins. Studies have shown that chronic venous insufficiency variably affects up to 50% all adults, with up to 30% of adults having large varicose veins. Furthermore, abnormal veins affect about 3 times more women, than men. If you think you may have abnormal leg veins, you would likely benefit from a consultation with one of our physicians.
