3 Easy Ways to Help Minimize Wrinkles and Skin Damage

Skin Tightening page

Wrinkles are a common bother to most people in Ottawa. We obviously cannot halt the natural ageing process but we can certainly try and diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage. As we age, wrinkles become more prevalent, however, preventing them is much easier than fixing them once they occur.

Minor, non-surgical injectable treatments are options. However, if you are busy like us, you want some quick, easy tips to incorporate into your day to help your skin. Let’s take a look at three very easy skin care tips that can help to prevent wrinkles and skin damage as you age.

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Internal good health reflects upon your skin, and it is not surprising that staying hydrated with lots of fluids like mineral water, coconut water, and green tea is beneficial. (Diet soda does not count). Water has the ability to help your body get rid of toxins. Properly hydrated skin tends to maintain a more radiant and a glowing appearance and is also well prepared to combat wrinkle-causing oxidants. How much is enough? This depends on your activity level. For most people, 6-8 cups of water per day are plenty. The biggest struggle is actually sipping it throughout the day! For busy people, filling up a large water bottle and having it by your side throughout the day is a great start.

2. Increase Your Antioxidant Consumption

Free radicals are unstable molecules which occur in atmospheric pollution and toxins and have the ability to harm your skin over time. They work against antioxidants that neutralize the harmful effect of these free radicals. Examples of antioxidants are vitamins A, C, & E, and beta-carotene. Where do we find antioxidants? Colorful fruits and vegetables are a great source. There are many sources where antioxidants can be found including, but not limited blueberries, kiwis, spinach, walnuts, beans, and even red wine (in moderation of course). Improving your diet in this regard can really help improve your skin.

3. Quit Smoking

We are all already aware that smoking is a very bad habit. There are many reasons why we need to stop smoking and one of the most convincing reasons to quit smoking is to maintain healthier and younger skin with minimal wrinkles and fine lines. Research has confirmed that smoking causes faster ageing of your skin by breaking the collagen and elastin fibres, which are significant components present in maintaining your skin’s firmness. Don’t believe us? Check out this article from CNN which shows identical twins – can you guess which one smokes?

Apart from these tips mentioned above, a proper skin care regime is essential.
