Skin Care for Men: 3 Basic Skin Care Tips for Men

Excessive Sweating Treatments

Many men have begun to realize that good skin doesn’t come without a little effort. However, it is important to know that a man’s skin is different from a woman’s. Women tend to have thinner and more sensitive skin whereas men’s skin is often thicker, oilier, and less sensitive. Owing to these differences and the presence of facial hair, skincare routines for men are different than women’s.

Let’s take a look at some of the common skin care tips that men can follow to take care of their skin:

1. Shaving Products

Men often stick to their comfortable ways of shaving but if you’re suffering from razor burn or ingrown hairs, your shaving style needs to be reevaluated. If you realize that shaving irritates your skin, try a shaving cream for sensitive skin. It should be lathered with a little water and left on your face for a few minutes to soften the hair. Using a pre-shaving oil can also help when applied before shaving as it further moistens and softens the hair and skin. Using hypoallergic products that have exfoliating agents is also helpful in preventing irritation. If you are prone to ingrown hairs, try a gentle exfoliating cleanser such as one that contains glycolic acid to help prevent these ingrown. More importantly, your choice of razor matters. Electric razors often cause less skin irritation skin than manual razors. Remember to also shave in the direction of your hair growth for a smooth finish with less skin irritation.

2. Skin Care With SPF

It is necessary to wear sunscreen in order to avoid damage by the sun rays which can cause wrinkles and age spots to appear and may even result in skin cancer. Choose a daily moisturizer with SPF already in it to make your life easier, such as EltaMD. When outside for a pronged period of time, make sure to cover exposed areas with a higher SPF sunscreen. This goes for all exposed areas of skin like scalp, ears, neck, and lips. The best choice is to use a broad-spectrum, water-proof, mineral-based sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. It should be applied every two hours while exposed and reapplied after swimming or excessive sweating.

3. Moisturize Daily

Moisturizers have the ability to trap in skin’s moisture, which in turn makes your skin look brighter, younger and healthier. It is best to moisturize your face and body as soon as you are done bathing, shaving or showering when the skin is still moist to lock in the moisture and keep your skin hydrated. Everyone’s skin is unique. What may suit one man’s skin might not be ideal for another.
